General
or regionally-specific wine links may be listed ahead of winery
links.The
words Winery, Vineyards, Cellars, and Wine Cellars have
been dropped, unless necessary to avoid confusion. |

an "information" page, often produced by a third-party,
such as a marketing group, retailer or dedicated fan.
Some
important wineries are listed but not linked and apparently
have no web presence for one reason or another. |
Australia
Australia
is a vast land with many prime vineyard areas along its coastal
perimeter, inland mountain ranges and river valleys. There are
hundreds of vineyards and producers and even several universities
dedicated to researching and improving the quality of vineyard
and wine production.
It
is somewhat disconcerting therefore that neither the industry
nor government have recognized the market advantages and taken
the responsibility to organize and define the various appellations.
There are, in fact, no official definitions or recognitions
of growing areas. Australian wine labels do not even require
an appellation of origin to be included (although a country
of origin is mandatory).
I
imagine that a one or two-week wine trip to Australia might,
out of practicality, include but one or two areas, so it seems
germain to make a virtual pre-plan. In that regard, but with
no first-hand geographic knowledge of downunder, I have attempted
to organize the winery links here geographically, in order to
avoid a numbingly huge list that makes a really boring page.
Corrections to this page are of course invited and welcomed.
